Theo & Cash at Chatfield Hollow

Come take in the beauty of New England and Connecticut this fall and enjoy a special treat when you join us on the trails.   This October trail guides Theo and Cash invite you to join them on their morning hike (ok, they run and WE hike).  We’ll leave the inn at dawn with coffee or tea in hand and drive to one of our many favorite spots where the foliage and nature are sure to gently wake bodies and minds and set a wonderful tone for the rest of the day.    Our hikes will range from 45 minutes to an hour and difficulty will be easy to moderate.  All you need to do is bring the right hiking shoes.    Chasing squirrels optional.   At the end of our hike we head back to the inn for a hot and fulfilling breakfast.

Our tail hiking package is available every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday in October (weather permitting) and will include a Scranton Seahorse Inn travel mug for each hiker (filled with your favorite hot morning beverage ) and pr- hike home made fruit and nut energy bars.   Please join us as we can’t think of a more perfect way to show off the beauty of our great state.   Make your reservations early – Cash & Theo look forward to meeting you.

It’s great to be In Good Company….

In O’Scents of Madison

In OScents of MadisonWe often brag about the company we keep here at our location in Madison, Connecticut.   Being surrounded by so many great people and great businesses here on the Connecicut Shoreline make work feel like anything but work.

We are especially pleased today to go on and on about our business relationship with fellow Madison Chamber Member and good friend Dyan Salemi.  Dyan is founder and owner of In O’Scents of Madison which specializes in bath products that are handmade with the finest ingredients she can get her hands on.  From soaps and bath salts to scented sachets and custom gift baskets In O’Scents of Madison delivers products you cannot find anywhere.  Nowhere else will you find specialty products like these that include the attention and love that goes into each and every product Dyan makes right out of her own home.    Like a true Bostonian Dyan has the gift of gab and when she stops by the inn to make a special delivery for me or a guest she’ll take the time to entertain us with stories of her past like her Italian grandmother’s advice for spraying your pillow case with linen water scented with pure lavender or the benefits of the pure shea butter she uses in her soaps.   Her generosity to her friends, customers and our community rightly earned her the Madison Chamber’s New Member of the Year award in 2012.

We are proud to say that the Scranton Seahorse Inn provides all of our guests with handmade soaps by In O’Scents of Madison and we even have our very own signature scent.   Both my new and regular guests love the seashell shaped soap so much that some are buying it from me.

Look around Dyan’s website at In O’Scents of Madison and give her a call when you see something you like.   Remember, she’ll customize a gift basket, a party favor and even help create your own signature scent.

Once again, it’s great to be In Good Company!

It all makes sense today….

Three years into this journey and I continue to find happiness in this life that has chosen me  and it came together again today.   The inn is filled with long time friends from home, repeat cusomters back for their 6 month anniversary, and new faces that are certain to become friends.    And let’s not forget the cute black poodle named Ebbe from New York enjoying his stay in the Madison Getaway.     There’s good energy at the inn tonight.     It’s great to be in good company.

Scranton Seahorse Inn & The Madison Food Pantry

So many families across our great country are finding themselves in need of the things many of us take for granted on a daily basis.  Food, electricity, heat, medical care…

We are blessed to be in the good company of the all volunteer organization Madison Community Services whose motto is “Neighbors Helping Neighbors”.    Their mission is dedicated to helping citizens of Madison through the availability of free programs in response to the needs of the local citizens. The services include transportation to medical appointments, financial crisis assistance, holiday food baskets, a supplemental food pantry, children’s summer camp scholarships, and school supply assistance.

We want to do our part.  Throughout November and December we will have a bin at the inn collecting non perishable food items from our guests.   If you can’t bring them with you, we are steps away from a supermarket!  In return for our guests generosity we will deduct $10 from their room charge and donate that directly to the Madison Food Pantry.

It’s great to be in good company.

Dinners at the Farm, Madison Connecticut

Dinner Madison CTWhat happens when great personalities come up with an idea to generate awareness of the importance and vitality of our local farming community?  Things like Dinners at the Farm happen.    And they’re happening right here on the Connecticut shoreline at Madison’s Barberry Farm and East Lyme’s White Gate Farm.

Beginning this weekend and continuing for several weeks you have the opportunity to eat delicous food prepared by some of the best chefs in CT and at the same time reconnect farming, cooking, and eating.  Each event includes a tour of the farm followed by a 6 course menu including paired wines.    And that’s not all.    Dinners at the Farm also strengthens our community by helping to raise funds for local agricultural and humanitarian non-profit organizations.

There are still limited tickets available so check out the schedule and tickets page today.

Barberry Farms is just 2 minutes and White Gate Farm is just 30 minutes from our door.   Make your farm dinner an overnight stay and enjoy a continuation of great local food during breakfast at the Scranton Seahorse Inn.

It’s great to be in good company.

Community Supported Agriculture at the Scranton Seahorse Inn

We had a very exciting weekend at the inn.   Not only was it a beautiful spring weekend but it was our first weekend when we cooked with the fruits and vegetables from our CSA share from Bishops Orchards.   Connecticut has had a wet & cold spring so we’ve been anxiously waiting for our local & sustainable produce to be ripe for picking.   Let’s back up a bit…

What’s a CSA or Community Supported Agriculture?  As far as food propositions go it’s about as simple as it gets.   You find a local farm and buy a share and every week during the growing season you pick up a box of whatever goodies are being pulled from the fields right now.    It also lets you enjoy the best parts of sustainably grown fruits and vegetables without the responsibility for the weeding and watering.   In our case, our CSA share from Bishop’s supplements our own gardens and what we buy at the farmers markets.

In our first box we were very excited to find multiple varieties of lettuce, sugar snap peas, spinach, basil, and strawberries!   And, in turn our guests enjoyed fresh strawberry scones and strawberry lemon muffins.   I also made a delicous spinach frittata, a guest favorite.

I’m looking forward to creating some magnificent menus this growing season and providing fresh & healthy meals to our guests.
